A traditional image of Mary, the Undoer of Knots, is painted in the Russian style of Orthodox icon painting. The knots represent our difficulties and problems. This image is used to look beyond the sufferings of life to a place of perfection. It ws painted on a traditional icon board, with 24 karat gold used for the background.
Holly enjoys exploring a variety of painting media, including oils, acrylics, pen and ink, pastels and watercolor. She has encouraged and taught hundreds of students in styles spanning realism to Impressionism to abstract art. Her wide range of work includes ancient sacred traditions, realistic local landmarks, whimsical fairy tales, and detailed pen and ink with hidden imagery. Her recent 15 month stay in India, where she studied Thangka painting (sacred Tibetan scroll painting) brought together her love of Buddhism, Tibetan culture, and expression in the arts.
