This is an image of a hand painted Orthodox Christian icon of the "face not made by human hands", depicting Jesus and the holy cloth/holy napkin. It was done in the traditional Russian icon style, on a hand carved and gessoed board imported from Serbia. It was finished in 24 carat gold, and took me around 20 hours to complete this 8 x 10 inch painting.
Holly enjoys exploring a variety of painting media, including oils, acrylics, pen and ink, pastels and watercolor. She has encouraged and taught hundreds of students in styles spanning realism to Impressionism to abstract art. Her wide range of work includes ancient sacred traditions, realistic local landmarks, whimsical fairy tales, and detailed pen and ink with hidden imagery. Her recent 15 month stay in India, where she studied Thangka painting (sacred Tibetan scroll painting) brought together her love of Buddhism, Tibetan culture, and expression in the arts.
